The Days of Our Lives: Miranda Kent and Anna Gurry, The It Kit

This week I want to introduce you to Miranda Kent and Anna Gurry, two good friends who started The It Kit.

For as long as they can remember, Miranda and Anna have loved hunting down unique gifts and finding creative ways of wrapping them up for family and friends.

In 2011, they decided to turn their passion for the perfect pressie, into a business and launched, The It Kit. From birthdays and thank yous, to new babies and housewarmings, Miranda and Anna have got every occasion covered with their original, and most importantly, thoughtful gift kits.

This is a day in their life…

The Daily Routine of Miranda Kent and Anna Gurry, Creators of The It Kit

7.00 am

Miranda – Woken by my son Otto anytime from 6:30am. Shower (if I can sneak a shower in by myself then I will but if I get caught in the bathroom it’s a pretty quick shower with Otto!) then make Otto breakfast and get him dressed; play trains and head to childcare. I usually then pick up a smoothie for breakie on my way to the office.

Anna – Woken up by three kids. Feed kids, make school lunches, dress kids and somehow squeeze in a shower. School and kinder run (always running late) followed by coffee (a must!!) from Millstone Cafe and onto the office.

9.30 am

Meet each other at the Office (East Malvern). Check emails and respond, reply to new enquiries, check instagram, post anything newsworthy or new products that have just arrived. Collate sales from previous day and chat with Catherine (our trusty right-hand woman) to get all KITs/gifts dispatched that morning. Check stock levels and order where necessary. Discuss any new or urgent tasks for the week ahead and newsletter content. Meet with any new suppliers at their showroom or our office. Start discussing lunch from 11am!!

12.30 pm

Lunchtime – Usually it’s a salad or sandwich from a little café around the corner from the office. We usually eat at our desk and chat about life (everything but work!). If we have had a meeting out we like to pick up Miss Chu’s or some sweetcorn fritters from Coin Laundry or our favourite soup from Rouge Café in winter.

1.00pm – 4.00pm

We like to meet once a week to discuss what corporate projects have come in and brainstorm concepts. Discuss new products that we’ve seen and work on new KIT ideas. Work on any collaborations with designers. Check on our team of gorgeous casual employees that are packing our big corporate orders at our warehouse – we are so particular about how the ribbon should be tied and which way the swing tag hang so we double check everything that goes out the door. We’re sure they think we are completely nuts! Pop across the road to the best homemade bakery to pick up a sweet treat for everyone in the office.

4.30pm – 7.30pm

Miranda –  Pick up Otto from childcare, home to put dinner on, across the road to the park for a quick play/swing, feed Otto, bath, story time (sometimes this can lead to over 10 books as he knows its procrastination from bedtime!)

Anna – Pick up Kids from school, kinder and creche, cook dinner for kids, bath and hopefully have kids in bed around 7.30.

7.30pm – 10.30pm

Miranda – Dinner with my husband followed by TV with laptop often on knee trawling the internet for new ideas, new products, reading blogs… then bed!

Anna – Wine and dinner with my husband, then we’ll often watch a show or I’ll respond to emails as well as paying bills, supplier invoices, BAS statements (its really the only free headspace I can get to do this plus its more bearable after a glass of wine!), go to bed and hope to get a full nights sleep!
