It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for a good ol’ serving of Tuck Shop Take Away. Let’s check in with Karina and Clinton and see what they’ve been up as they dream, create and roll their sleeves up to turn their gem of an idea into a business. This week it was all about shopping, shopping and shopping!
Welcome to hump week.
We’re in the middle, on top of the mound and it’s going to be a speedy slip and a slide down to the bottom from here on in.
This week we did a little shopping. We went scouring local markets for original, interesting pieces and then to the not so original or even interesting but more practical, IKEA Springvale where lots of bottomless cups of coffee were consumed. We came across some awesome melamine teacups from Camberwell Market, and some sturdy pot racks from IKEA.
eBay has been a great source for the old school type pieces. We won some vintage school lockers that will be mounted on the back wall and turned into pigeon hole shelving and found some canteen trays from Chicago, you know the ones with all the compartments? We are pretty dam excited about those! With our Danish school chairs bought last week our final large key piece is the communal dining table which we are yet to find Mr Right.
We had our final meeting with our builder Michael from Aligned Building. Having gone over every last detail he and his team are set to come in the beginning of the week and get started on the fit out.
Our weekend took a turn for the worst with both of us being knocked out with a bad virus and we soon learnt that sometimes it’s best to stand back for a moment and look after ones self through the madness, even if for just 24 hours. Having said that the world keeps spinning and eBay bids were being placed from the sick bed which I think is the night we scored the lockers!
As we approach the pointy end we are down to sourcing suppliers and products, the little details like straws… which straws to go with? The red and white striped ones or the pink and white striped ones? With so many details to cover it’s no wonder we’re tossing and turning over take away cups one night and cabinetry the next.
Thankfully soon enough it’s going to be dreams about what cake I’ll be making tomorrow, hmmm chocolate, brown butter and hazelnut….. yes that’s more like it, much sweeter dreams.
