Tuck Shop Take Away Tuesday

Tuck Shop Take Away

It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for a good ol’ serving of Tuck Shop Take Away. Let’s check in with Karina and Clinton and see what they’ve been up as they dream, create and roll their sleeves up to turn their gem of an idea into a business.

As we creep ever so close to the finish line, this week saw 95% of the building and other major works finished. The builders, plumber and sparkie are all waiting for our call to come in and simply tie off the loose ends after we have stained, painted and faffed around with the fiddly bits.

So the last of the big decisions that need to be made as far as finishes  has us in full swing with our amazing interior designers, lighting gurus and dear friends Steve and Helena of Empirical Style. We agonised over the colour of our cage lights and pendant light for ages but finally came to a decision and we picked them up on Tuesday. They look fabulous and we are super happy. With these talented peeps by our side the shop is sure to end up looking spectacular!

A few weeks ago Clinton came across a stall at the Camberwell Market which belonged to Zane who does up vintage suitcases making them into stereo systems. They look fantastic and we knew the Tuck Shop had to have one. So we sourced the perfect suitcase and dropped it to his shopfront in Malvern called Melbourne Vintage Audio for him to work his musical magic on and transform it into a traveling tune case.

The weekend saw us standing in our completed back prep kitchen. We took to peeling off the plastic that was covering and protecting the stainless steel finishes and appliances. It is a very satisfying feeling letting the shiny silver surface show itself and I was beyond excited to be able to turn on the oven for the first time after not having one for nearly four months. I christened it with a big juicy roast chicken and roast veggies. We tinkered around hanging whisks and stacking containers. It is starting to feel very real and very exciting.

So with no tradies in sight the last stretch is up to us and we need to put our heads down and work our butts off to get the Tuck Shop to its final stages. After being so certain we would be open weeks ago it is undeniable that we are in the home stretch, if we squint we can actually see the finish line!
