It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for a good ol’ serving of Tuck Shop Take Away. With just one week until they open, Karina and Clinton are in the home straight of making their dream a reality.
This is it! We are opening next week and we cannot believe we have finally made it.
Next Tuesday is the big day and although it is just around the corner we still have a truck load of things to do, the days and nights are longer than ever and we are pushing ourselves to the max right to the very end.
We have spent most of this week cramming in more tasks than there are hours in the day. From finalising and ordering our packaging to settling on our rubber stamp design. We trekked all over Melbourne again, IKEA for some last minute bits and pieces, eBay pickups and everything in between. Bread samples came at the crack of dawn and mince blend samples from the butcher.
We trialed our first few menu items with resounding success! The beef burger has the thumbs up as does the vegetarian one. The sweets are slowly coming together and although as with trialing any menu items a few have been tweaked and adjusted to make them perfect. We have been eating our fair share of burgers and sweets this week all washed down with every milk shake – salted caramel, nutella, peanut butter and redskin…. they all need to be taste tested by someone!
We had the lovely Marwin from Monk Bodhi Dharma, who is supplying our coffee, come by to work his magic on our coffee machine. He frothed and poured, steamed and cleaned to get it producing his amazing coffee perfectly and after a few hours had it making a superb brew. He chanced on being here on our vegetarian burger testing day and being a vegetarian himself was just what we needed. He gave it two thumbs up so we are chuffed.
Helena from Empirical Style and I took a trip out to Waverley Antique Bazaar to scout around for the key pieces to dress the room. It was a huge success getting most of what we needed and a bit more. We left with a world globe, vintage syrup dispenser, school satchel, retro cassette case and more. Getting the shop dressed is that little bit easier with the keen eye and designer minds of Steve and Helena by our sides.
The signage has all gone up on the exterior of the shop and we are saving the window reveal for our big opening party. The plastic will be coming down and the door will slide open for everyone we want to thank for helping to get us to this point who without we could not have achieved this.
With one week to go until we open, stay tuned for the last few pieces in the puzzle!
