You don’t have to spend a fortune to give your living room a makeover for winter. For about $100 you can create a complete new look by simply updating your cushions.
The right cushions can make a room feel complete, while a bad one – or even excess of good ones! – can throw everything off. Here are my three tips for getting it right:
- Play mixmaster and layer patterns, prints and colours. While your cushions don’t need to match, the should relate in palette or style so that your room feels unified.
- Contrasting textures create warmth and visual interest. For instance, a chunky knitted cushion works well with a leather sofa while a velvet cushion makes a handsome pair when it’s styled with a linen one.
- You can have too much of a good thing! Don’t be tempted to over-crowd your sofa with too many cushions. Keep in mind the depth of your sofa as well as its length. And as a general rule of thumb, if you have to move some cushions off to sit comfortably, then you have too many!
The different looks you can create with new cushions are endless. To inspire you to try something new, I’ve styled five different looks using cushions from Freedom. And the best bit? Freedom currently has an ace offer where you get one cushion free when you buy three.
