This week I’m handing over the Checks and Spots reins to Penny and Sam, the ridculously talented duo behind Scally Duggan Styling. Their focus is simple: with home and interior styling they can unlock the door to your dream home. But it’s their canny eye for sourcing and pulling together a look, and feel, for your home that is out-of-the- box.
Over the next few days they’re going to share a whole ton of insights for creating a relaxed space for the kids. First up? We’re talking storage and furnishings.
So you have a kids playroom. Then why are you all still huddled around the kitchen bench fighting for space? Is there enough in the kids corner to entice them there?
These easy steps will ensure your kids gravitate to their zone and out of your hair. And they all work within the chicest interior style.
Always have big storage. Either a big cupboard or a large box. Make sure the toys/games can be stored for when you need the room to be on display but also accessible for kids when needed.
We love House of Orange for storage. If room allows, their storage bench seat (which you can spot above) is versatile and cool.
Alternatively a toy chest on wheels is a great piece for the playroom. Paint it up if you wish or hand the task over to your kids as their own art project.
Comfy inviting seating is essential. Jardan Milo modular seating is a great option as it can be reconfigured, the varied shapes and textures of each piece also create a great sense of fun.
If you are tight on room and need to use every available space a custom made modular allows you to choose your own fabric. Check out this affordable option from the SLUMP range at Scally Duggan Styling.
Another thing to think about is ditching the coffee table and keeping the centre of the room clear. Inevitably there will be a lot of rough and tumble. Almost always kids will migrate from couch to floor.
Also, introduce low seating in the form of floor cushions. These can be moved around the room, stacked in the corner for reading sessions or scattered on the floor in front of the TV.
The kids will fight over these divine floor cushions available from Slump by Scally Duggan Styling.
