In The Days of Our Lives, we meet some fascinating and creative folk and take a look at what their typical day holds. Far from being about the mundane, it is a celebration of what it takes to juggle the day-to-day with big ideas, a successful business and a full home life. It’s about keeping all the balls in the air – what is important and what isn’t. It’s about (extra)ordinary moments that fill our every day.
This week I’d like to introduce you to Vivian Lam, the entrepreneur and founder of Five Plus Smoothie, a little shop in Melbourne that packs a mighty health punch. Although Five Plus Smoothie only opened a couple of months ago, Vivian and her family have had a long hospitality history in our fair city, including Mekong Vietnam, Rice Paper Vietnam Street Food, Gong Cha, Hot Star Large Fried Chicken, China Bar, Section 8 and Ferdydurke.
This is a day in Vivian’s life and her passion for nourishing, fun, healthy living.

Alarm rings. This is a battle everyday. Even though I like the peace and quiet in the morning, it is always hard to wake up early. Summer time helps though.
Get ready. Walk and feed Axel (my Labrador). Drive to the pool, along the way I will have a banana and an apple.
Laps in the pool (30 minutes). Swimming really helps me de-stress and focus. And any form of exercise gives me more energy throughout the day.
8am Some quiet time to myself before the day starts. This involves reading and reflecting. Coffee and another round of breakfast for post workout!
9.00 am – 5.00 pm
My days are never the same and my responsibilities evolve. I used to do a lot more tasks that very hands on in the day to day running of the business, now I delegate most of that so I can focus on other tasks. In the mornings I will try to get work done that requires concentration, that’s when I am least distracted and when I work best. Afternoons are for more creative and collaborative work. Sometime in the day, I will definitely grab a green smoothie. It helps to satisfy the perkiness. Before I wrap up for the day, I will usually clean my table and plan for the next day, so that I am set to roll the following day.
Get home. Walk Axel. Cook dinner with my husband.
Watch TV. It helps me unwind. Read articles online. Facebook. Instagram.
