This morning I popped past The Design Files Open House and got to take a sneaky look around before it opens tomorrow – and let me tell you Melbourne, you’re in for a treat!

It’s been four years since the first Design Files Open House, and this year Lucy and her team have stepped it up to a whole other level. Rather than moving into someone’s home and staging the event, they have custom designed and built their dream house within a 400 square metre warehouse. I’m talking flooring, lighting, paint selection, a working kitchen…the while kit and caboodle!

As always, you can shop everything at The Design Files Open House, but there’s something that feels a lot less ‘retail’ about the event. While it has always been carefully considered and thoughtfully put together, this year The Design Files Open House comes across as more tightly edited. There is a strong focus on artwork and the use of colour in brave and unexpected ways. Beautiful ceramics by ridiculously talented local makers also shine.

You can check out The Design Files Open House from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 December 2014, 10 am – 5pm // 12 Smith Street, Collingwood, VIC
