If you believe everything you see on Instagram, the humble smoothie has been superseded by the smoothie bowl! More than looking as pretty as a picture, smoothie bowls are an easy way to up your mineral consumption, cleanse toxins, oxygenate blood and boost energy.
When creating your smoothie bowl recipe, there are three things to keep in mind:
- For the perfect, creamy base maximise the amount of frozen fruit you include in your recipe and minimise the amount of liquid you need to blend everything up.
- Make your smoothie bowl nutritionally dense by adding things like avocado, Greek yogurt, coconut oil or nut butter.
- Get creative with your toppings. Chopped nuts, seeds, fresh fruit, cacao nibs, sliced medjool dates, nut butter or grated citrus zest all make great options. Just be mindful that you don’t overdo your toppings as it’s quite easy to add heaps of calories to your smoothie bowl.
