In The Days of Our Lives we meet some fascinating and creative folk and take a look at what their typical day holds. Far from being about the mundane, it is a celebration of what it takes to juggle the day-to-day with big ideas, a successful business and a full home life. It’s about keeping all the balls in the air – what is important and what isn’t. It’s about (extra)ordinary moments that fill our every day.
This week, we meet Zoe Paul, one half of the husband-and-wife team behind fashion label, Mister Zimi. Born from an idea they had while on holiday, Mister Zimi has grown into a cult label that has some serious buzz about it.
In just a few short years, Mister Zimi has made a splash with its sun soaked colours, impeccable tailoring and relaxed silhouettes. It has also seen Zoe and Jimi pack up their home and move to Bali, start a family and open Melbourne and Seminyak stores in addition to their e-boutique.
If there’s such a thing as living the life, then Zoe surely is! This is a day in her life…
Wake up – my six month-old alarm clock wakes me up early today!
Feed Florence and get her ready for the day.
Ride my motorbike ride through the rice fields and head to an exercise class, stopping by two friends places on the way to join the bikie gang as we head to our exercise class!
Get absolutely dominated at the gym by our German trainer, who keeps yelling at us to go harder when doing push ups! After having a baby six months ago and not doing exercise for at least two years prior, this is my worst nightmare. But it must be done!
Finish gym and get back on the motorbike, my arms are so heavy I can hardly steer!
Arrive at Sea Circus Restaurant for an omelet and and a latte with the girls I’ve just trained with. One is another Australian designer and another an English designer.
Meet my husband Jimi at our new shop in Seminyak, to find that the previous tenants have ripped everything out of there, including fans, lights, electrical sockets.. even the front window and the door, no need for a key!! Jimi and I go into crisis mode and work out how we can start renovations fast! We like to say TIB, THIS IS BALI! Things like this happen everyday here.
Head into the office, go through emails and online sales. Procrastinate about uploading all the images for the new collection onto the website and decide I’ll do it tomorrow.
Meeting with my PA to discuss the new collection prints and samples. We need to go into production ASAP! We’re always running behind deadline.
Quick bite to eat with Jimi and then I get back onto my bike and head home to my girl, stopping off at the factory on the way home to check on production.
Home time with Florence. We play, and I try to get her off to sleep with does not work at all! She is a party girl.
Jimi comes home and the three of us head back into town in the car to look at the shop again. We organise to meet with a builder there so we can board it up. We start to discuss plans.
Back home again. Florence and I go for a little walk around our villa which is surrounded by the rice fields. She loves looking at the green crops blowing in the wind. Its the perfect end to a manic day!
Feed my two dogs and watch the sunset.
Bath time with lots of splashing.
Bedtime for Florence and dinner time for us.
Get back onto the computer and start to upload the new collection online. Very exciting times!
