In The Days of Our Lives we meet some fascinating and creative folk and take a look at what their typical day holds. Far from being about the mundane, it is a celebration of what it takes to juggle the day-to-day with big ideas, a successful business and a full home life. It’s about keeping all the balls in the air – what is important and what isn’t. It’s about (extra)ordinary moments that fill our every day.
Let me introduce you to Chelsea Thomas, a natural born bargain shopper and founder of I Heart Bargains, a website that celebrates wonderfully cheap fashion finds under $100. Chelsea came up with the concept for her site after becoming a first time mum and realising that while staying stylish was important to her, spending big was no longer an option. Aside from running I Heart Bargains, Chelsea is a consultant in the media and communications industry, bakes a mean banana cake and runs around (in fashionably cheap flats) after 1 year old son, Jude! This is a day in Chelsea’s life…
Raisen toast. English breakfast tea. Weetbix. Stewed pear. Jude and I share a big breakie.
Laptop opens and my day officially starts. Check to-do list. This list that gets chopped and changed and scribbled on as the day goes on.
Dart down to 1000 Blessings Café in Richmond for a soy chai and a strawberry yoghurt frog. Emails. Phone calls.
Pick bargain outfit options for my photo shoot with media for my role as Devotee for L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Too. Much. Fun.
Bung a banana cake mixture in the oven.
Update media kit for sponsors. Schedule Facebook posts and find something for ‘Sunday Inspo’.
Eat cake. Drink tea. Call the Marketing Manager of Princess Polly to discuss the possibility of working together. I have a list of 10 bloggers and 10 brands that I want to work with and they sit on my pin board so I’m ‘channeling’ them every day. When you write something down and look at it every day it’s much more likely to happen!
I have a phone hook up with my client, Brand Smart Premium Outlet Centre about their upcoming launch.
The house fills with noise as ‘Dadda’ and Jude come barreling through the door. Hungry. Tired. Stories. I get into Mum-mode and make dinner and run the bath.
Cuddles with Jude then I put him in his cot. Tidy house as I catch up with my husband. Phew.
The online bargain trawling begins. As a rule I check my fave sites first. River Island, Forever New, Freez, Asos, Sportsgirl, Target. My list of faves is pretty long hence the hours that go into trawling. It’s my favourite part of my work and let’s be honest, it feels like ‘shopping’ not work. Never does my job feel like I work and I’m blessed to be able to say this.
Write a handful of posts that will surprise and delight my readers the following day. I love being able to share these secrets with my readers and making them feel gorgeous, without the necessity to spend lots of money. I post something new every day so the website is fresh.
Laptop closed and off to bed. This is a rule otherwise I find it hard to sleep and I find myself married to a laptop instead of my gorgeous husband. It’s so important to drop work sometimes, especially when you’re being unproductive or time wasting or when you notice your loved ones really needing you. Glass of powdered magnesium. It’s the only way to keep me energized through my busy days! Swear by it.
