This week I’d like to introduce you to one of Australia’s leading jewellery designers, Nicole Fendel.
Inspired by various cultures and decorative elements from around the globe, Nicole started designing jewellery in her free time while she was studying Interior Architecture in Perth. After graduating, she moved across the Nullarbor to Melbourne where she worked as a Commercial Interior Architect and continued selling her jewellery on the side. Before long, Nicole started taking calls from strangers and beautiful boutiques who had heard about her hand-crafted jewellery. So in 2005, she decided to focus full-time on her eponymous label, Nicole Fendel Jewellery.
Since then Nicole’s signature statement earrings and sentimental engravings have captured the hearts women around the world, including A-list celebrities such as Jennifer Hawkins, Isabelle Lucas, Ashley Hart and Margaret Zhang.
This is a day in Nicole’s life…
The Daily Routine of Nicole Fendel
6:30 am – 7.00 am
Rise and shine! Zac, my 2 1/2 year old son, is our daily alarm clock. My husband has started doing seven minute workouts in the morning which Zac loves being involved with. This allows me to have an extra 10 minutes in bed to check emails and Instagram. This is followed by a flurry of activity. Breakfast, dressing Zac (usually not a quick process!), getting ready myself, unstacking the dishwasher, putting a load of washing on and if I have time, packing my lunch.
Drop Zac off at Creche.
Coffee on the run.
9.30 am- 11.00 am
Morning updates with the Nicole Fendel Jewellery team, including Operations, Digital, Sales and Production.
11.30 am -12.00 pm
By this time I’m usually starving and thinking about lunch. Before I eat, I try to get up to date with all the email correspondence in my usually very full inbox.
Eat lunch at my desk. No time for a lunch break.
1.30 pm – 4.00pm
Today I spend time with my Production Manager to confirm the design story for an upcoming collaboration with an amazing Australian blogger. I then sit down with the Digital Manager to go over all the elements that need to be finalised for our brand new website.
My last half hour in the office is spent working on new designs for our next AW16 collection. I’m about to go on maternity leave so I am trying to get as much product design done as possible before baby number two arrives next month!
Rush though Coles trying to get inspired for healthy but yummy dinner ideas.
5.00 pm – 5.30pm
Collect Zac from Creche. I love hearing all about his day on the way home.
5.30 pm – 7.30pm
The nighttime routine with Zac begins – dinner, bath, story time and then bed. I usually fall asleep with him for a half an hour or so.
7.30 pm – 9.00 pm
I get back up to have dinner and catch up with hubby. In the evenings I also like to spend some time on our Instagram – I find it an amazing tool for design feedback and inspiration.
9.30 pm – 10.00 pm
Cant keep my eyes open … bed time.
