Winter 2011 Hair Trends

Some say he’s the Captain of Colour others say he’s the Sultan of Snipping. Either way Joey Scandizzo, Creative Director of Rokk Ebony’s South Yarra salon, has just been awarded  2011 Hairdresser of the Year at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards.

Since only the best will do for you dear readers, I caught up with Joey to get the low down on hair trends for Winter 2011…

Checks and Spots: What hair colours will be big in the cooler months?

Joey: Expect to see warm, rich colours to bring out a healthy glow. Reds, coppers and chestnut hues are also going to be big. We will incorporate these shades with a bold strong look to achieve a polished feel overall.

C: What cut will we see more of?

J: Classic hair that is polished and beautiful, yet strong. For short hair, think ‘Twiggy’ yet even more polished, bob cuts with strength in the shape yet feminine. For long hair it is a great time to bring back heavy solid fringes, movement, volume and smoothness – still polished. Ultimately hair that is polished with shine as it looks done and expensive.

C: What’s an easy styling tip readers we can try at home to update our look for winter?

J: Time to invest in hot rollers and the perfect styling products. Sebastian Professional is a great range and I would apply some Mousse Forte through the hair roots to ends then a light mist of Trilliant for shine and heat protection. Dry off then use your hot rollers to set the hair before using a Mason Pearson brush through it. Finish with Sebastian Zero Gravity finishing spray. You will be left with a beautiful shiny mane of hair that looks ‘done’ it will be smooth with volume and gorgeous movement

Do you have plans for a new ‘do in Winter?

Are you going to dip your toe in the water and try any of the trends Joey has shared?

  • Ooh, fab interview! That top pic puts my mind to a lovely photo of Grace Coddington back in the day — as seen on The September Issue. Sadly I will not be changing my hair this winter — cannot pull off that cute cropped do.

    Loving your redesign!!!

  • Bron – Glad you enjoyed the interview and even happier to hear that you’re loving the redesign! The images of Joey’s ‘handywork’ are pretty damn incredible. Sometimes there is nothing better than clean lines and black and white photos…
