In The Days of Our Lives we meet some fascinating and creative folk and take a look at what their typical day holds. Far from being about the mundane, it is a celebration of what it takes to juggle the day-to-day with big ideas, a successful business and a full home life. It’s about keeping all the balls in the air – what is important and what isn’t. It’s about (extra)ordinary moments that fill our every day.
This week we meet Sofia Basile an award winning hairdresser and creator of UNICO Formulations – a range of haircare products that are made from pure plant ingredients, vitamins and essential oils.
From spending twelve hour days snipping and styling hair in her salon, to creating her clean, green range (and still having time to do school drop off!), this is a day in Sofia’s life.
Everyday I wake up at the same time and take a quick shower. I then race into the kitchen and get my three little ones (Pasqual, Francesco and Zoia) organised – make their breakfast, get their schoolbags and lunches packed, lay out their uniforms and, of course, always double checking they have their hair brushed and their teeth cleaned.
The kids get bustled into the car and whizzed off to Primary School by yours truly. I like to walk them all into school and get them settled before I say my goodbyes for the day.
I drive to my favourite café (conveniently just across the road from my Fitzroy salon) where I have my two coffees for the day and a piece of toast. It’s a rare moment of calm before I walk across the road to the salon and my day truly starts!
My work day begins with answering emails, checking stock levels and preparing things for all my beloved clients. Throughout the day, I am focusing on creating new hairstyles for each client that I have and pour as much energy into it as I can… If I am not too busy with clients then I am focusing on training my staff and developing my UNICO Formulations range of gorgeous, natural products.
After a long day on my feet (usually a 12 hour shift!) I finally get home. Sometimes the kids will be awake and I get to enjoy more quality time with them. Or, if I’m lucky, my husband Frank will have put them to bed and have the dinner waiting for me. It’s a lovely treat and the perfect way to end a hectic day – enjoying my husband’s fabulous company and his equally fabulous cooking skills!
Just before I get to hit the hay, I do a last minute check over my emails and try to unwind after another productive day at the salon!
