The Days of Our Lives: Louisa Theobald, Beautiful You Australia

In The days of Our Lives, we meet some fascinating and creative folk and take a look at what their typical day holds. Far from being about the mundane, it is a celebration of what it takes to juggle the day-to-day with big ideas, a successful business and a full home life. It’s about keeping all the balls in the air – what is important and what isn’t. It’s about (extra)ordinary moments that fill our every day.

This week, I’d like to introduce you to Louisa Theobald, the Event Director for Beautiful You Australia, a groundbreaking event aiming to redefine beauty.

An events and exhibitions mastermind, Louisa started in the industry in 1998 as an admin assistant. She then worked her way up through pretty much every role you can imagine in sales, marketing, creative, financial and operational positions across three continents. During this time she has made caterpillars dance, shaken hands with sheikhs, eaten camel in desert palaces and not slept for 6 days straight!

Today, Louisa is incredibly excited about launching the most talked about consumer event for women in Australia. Beautiful You Australia is a game-changing event for women of all ages.

This is a day in Louisa’s life…

Louisa Theobald, Beautiful You Australia

6.00 am

Either my 4 year old or a native Australian bird outside my bedroom window wakes me up so I get myself dressed and then organise my son for preschool – which will or won’t involve some extensive negotiations depending on if he wants to wear his shoes or not.

8.30 am

I drop my little man off on my way to work and arrive around 9am, where I’ll catch up with my team about work stuff (or gossip from what went on the night before), check my emails and plan for the day ahead.

9.30 am

Caffeine dependency kicks in around now so I’ll pop out for coffee and some toast then back to my desk for updates with my sales, marketing and co-ordination teams to check in on how all facets of the show strategy are going.

12.30 pm

I’ve been trying to make time for personal training which is not always easy when we’re this close out to an event but I’m managing to get a couple of lunchtime sessions in a week. I have a terrific PT who responds intuitively to my daily pains and stresses and I always feel rejuvenated and ready to take on the afternoon afterwards.

2.30 pm

Client liaison is a big part of my job whether that’s meeting with an event Ambassador and their agent, a key partner or sponsor so I’ll either head out for meetings or arrange conference calls.

4.30 pm

A big focus for us at Beautiful You Australia is empowering women to accept and embrace their beauty both inside and out, so I make sure I’m across what’s being said in the media on this issue. I regularly flick through the major magazines and go through social media to keep an eye on how females are being portrayed, and what’s happening in the worlds of beauty, fitness, fashion, and health – all aspects of our event that resonate with our audience.

5.30 pm

I pick my son up, we sing some songs in the car (usually Green Day – he’s obsessed) and head home for his dinner and bath.

7.30 pm

Bed for the boy, wine for me! Depending on how close to an event I am, I’ll either keep working for a couple of hours or my partner and I will unwind in front of the TV. We’re currently power watching old episodes of X Files which isn’t exactly sleep inducing but it definitely takes my mind off work for a while..

10.30 pm

Bedtime – 7 hours sleep a night is terrific for me. Not always a guarantee though with to-do lists forever in my head, a 4 year old and that bloody native Australian bird!!
