In The Days of Our Lives we meet some fascinating and creative folk and take a look at what their typical day holds. Far from being about the mundane, it is a celebration of what it takes to juggle the day-to-day with big ideas, a successful business and a gloriously full home life. It’s about keeping all the balls in the air – what is important and what isn’t. It’s about (extra)ordinary moments that fill our every day.
Let me introduce you to Joey Scandizzo. Aside from looking awfully schmick in a bow tie, he is one busy lad running a hairdressing salon in Melbourne, being Creative Director for ELEVEN Australia, styling looks for high-profile magazines and working on TV shows such as Project Runway and Beauty and the Geek. Oh, and last month he was named the 2012 Australian Hairdresser of the Year – so clearly he’s pretty damn damn good at his craft!
This is a day in his life…
Wake up and go for a 8km run around The Tan. I always make sure I do a half hour stretch first whilst watching the morning news.
Shower and get ready for work while having a feed of museli.
On shoot location for a video clip for Kate Alexa, directing hair for all cast in the video. Even though it is early morning everyone is pumped and ready for a good time.
Prepare all the male dancers for the clip. Talk about the weekend footy with them while we are at it!
Time to prepare Kate’s first look for the day. I have worked with Kate before and always love it. Really cool chick.
Time for a bit of standing around whilst they start filming. We stop in between takes a few times and I help fix the hair so each take is perfectly styled.
Everyone hits the catering table for a quick pick me up to recharge for round two.
Back into hair and makeup to style the second look for Kate for the day.
Quick touch up for the male models and we are back to shooting.
Finished shooting and I head back to the salon for a creative meeting with ELEVEN Australia, a new product company for which I am Creative Director. We have an awesome two hour session on product design and testing. I am loving the ideas we are coming up with today!
Meeting with our PR Manager to go through editorial questions for Marie Claire and Madison Magazine. It is all about spring summer trends at the moment and I love the new direction hair is going – it’s all about the cut!
More PR with a social media online chat for Beauty Heaven, helping answer people’s hair questions online.
Dinner with my wife at Squires Loft Steakhouse on Toorak Rd (smile!)
Watch classic movie, Dancing with Wolves.
