Here’s your insiders guide to the top spring beauty trends that I spotted at this month’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Plus, I give you the lowdown on which products the Mecca and Kevin Murphy teams used, so you can recreate these hair and makeup looks at home.
Plaits and Braids
Channelling the Victorian Gothic revival, Kevin Murphy and his team of Session.Stylists created wispy, ethereal braids. They also added a touch of ornate by finishing each fishtail braid with a key.

Bold lips were one of the standout spring beauty trends created by Mecca at MSFW. Bright, velvety shades featured while the rest of the look was kept pared-back. Perhaps the most surprising inclusion was a rich, berry stain. While this tone is usually a go-to shade for the cooler months, it proved to be a fresh, ultra modern statement leading into spring.

Lids were awash with gold for a dramatic, metallic effect. While a more-is-more approach was taken for the runway, the principles of this look are ultra wearable.
Stick to gold shadow on the lids, and you can’t go wrong. It puts the focus on the eye and reflects the light. Gold also works best when paired with a warm shade (like copper or brown) that helps frame your eyes.
Get the look: To dip your toe in the water with this spring beauty trend, try a liquid shimmer shadow like Ellis Faas Eye Lights – 303
In a homage to 1950’s greasers, hair was slicked back. Equal parts edgy and feminine, this wet-look style has a simple elegance.
Get the look: The key to priming wet hair for this look is with SHIMMER.SHINE which adds a brilliant shine to hair without leaving an oily residue.
Skin was sensationally creamy, yet in a departure from previous seasons, it wasn’t overly dewy. To bring out the cheek bones, contouring rather than noticeable blush was used.
Get the look: Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation is a hydrating liquid foundation that creates a veil over the skin for a natural, flawless look.
The New Bun
The top-knot has had it’s day. This season is all about the new bun. Hair was secured into two low ponytails at the nape of the neck, braided and then rolled into a coil and secured.
Get the look: For flexible fullness and hold, BODY.BUILDER is brilliant when you want to give your hair body.
