Most of us want to live a healthy and more natural lifestyle (even if it’s just to atone for the sins of the weekend!) but often it’s so damn hard to know where to start. Enter holistic health and wellbeing expert Sam Sample. Recently Sam launched Be Naturallyou, a go-to destination of info that’s designed to inspire a more naturally beautiful you.
From nutrition advice and meditation tips, through to a directory of beauty products that are truly natural and organic, Be Naturallyou is a handy roadmap for inner and outer beauty.
Sam’s passion for a holistic approach to health and happiness is contagious. She walks the talk, has a refreshing authenticity and recently I caught up with Sam to find out what makes her tick. This is what we chatted about…
A typical day for me involves…. waking up to the sound of waves; going to local health food store for freshly squeezed organic veggie juice; heading to the office/warehouse for a few hours; heading out to lunch; working from home in the afternoon; yoga class or swim at the beach; more work at home; make dinner; read a couple of chapters of a book or watch a movie; sleep.
I started be naturallyou because… I have spent the last 12+ years studying, researching and experiencing the various disciplines of natural health, wellbeing and beauty. So much of what is marketed as “natural” or “healthy” is far from it. I felt there was a window of opportunity to create a central destination for women to be inspired and informed about how to genuinely improve their natural health and beauty.
I set up the Brand Directory so that consumers could find genuine natural and organic beauty brands that had been scrutinised by a non-biased individual who has a solid understanding of the natural and organic beauty industry. It is also a fair playing ground, as each brand has the same single page profile. It is my way of giving something back to all the ethical brands out there who are doing their part to contribute to the health and beauty of their customers and planet that we share. I have also been so impressed over the years by a number of fab beauty brands and wanted to share my knowledge and discoveries with the rest of beauty conscious women who are seeking natural and organic skin care. I spend my life researching this stuff, but the average person does not have the time to do this, so I’ve essentially done a lot of the ground work for them to log on to the website and choose a brand that suits them.
I’m wildly passionate about… animal cruelty and the insanity of the manner in which humans are treating mother earth by making unconscious choices.
My top tip for being a natural beauty is… to be healthy on the inside (physically, emotionally and spiritually) and the outside will glow naturally.
I wish more people knew that… every dollar they spend is a “vote.” We have the power to vote every day with the choices we make at the supermarket/deli/grocery and department store. Every time you buy a product you are saying to that company, ‘keep on doing what you are doing.’ You are supporting everything that company does: every source of raw material, every packaging solution, every environmental standard that they are undertaking, every form of employee relations, every marketing choice. The world is changing, and many new products and services are becoming available that are a part of the solution to reducing our footprint on the earth. It is up to us to choose these new ‘greener’ alternatives and support ethical, eco-aware companies.
My friends describe me as… a free spirit
I’m currently inspired by… incredibly naturally beautiful and ambitious women who I interview and feature on Be Naturallyou, including Megan Gale, Gail Elliott and Rainbeau Mars to name just a few.
Deep down, I… dream of moving to northern New South Wales to a big farm close to the beach, and setting up a loving, nurturing environment for homeless and mistreated dogs. A no-kill shelter that has acres of countryside for the dogs to run around and play.
My guilty pleasure is… overspending on MYLA lingerie.
Something most people don’t know about me is… I’m extremely shy and private.
My golden rule is… to always trust my gut instinct.
